Our department offers an accrediated program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Medical Laboratory Science. The MLS Program consists of four years of study. The first two years (Pre-MLS phase) includes your general education courses and supporting courses in chemistry and biological sciences. The third year (Upper Division phase) begins your major requirements for Medical Laboratory Science, with classes in hematology, clinical chemistry, immunology and serology, body fluid analysis, microbiology and immunohematology (blood banking). During the fourth (senior) year, the MLS student completes a 20-week clinical rotation in a hospital laboratory affiliated with the EKU program. Graduates of the program are eligible to take a national certification examination ("boards") for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
